After looking at that last post, I remembered that the newspaper is a dying form, and I should probably just stick with online stuff...sigh..

Where to?

Where from here?

Genghis Con was a moderate success, for me and the other participating artists. I stayed pretty busy the whole time, making different comics for each person who came along. next year, I charge more for those. And though it was a lot of work, it was fun. I love throwing myself into a project like that, where immediate creativity is needed, and there's not much room for planning. That's when my comics are at their best, without a specific story in mind. There's a punchline in mind, but how to get there?

I've been thinking about what direction to take my work in. I was working my other job recently and was thinking about cartoons/comics/graphic novels (which are all the same thing in my mind, but whatever). The first comic that got me into making my own was Calvin and Hobbes, when I discovered Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat at a school book fair at the tender age of six. I fell in love, and from that point on, I wanted to be a cartoonist for newspapers. It felt like a revelation to remember that. I've always wanted to do newspaper comics! So why haven't I done it yet? Why haven't I tried to pursue that? Maybe I got disheartened by the prospect of making so many comics. But I don't think I'm afraid of that anymore, after I made so many at Genghis Con. I think it's time I developed my portfolio and take it to some local papers. Now the work begins.

sketch dump

about time I did this.

I am really excited. After talking with John G and Kevin C, I think things are gonna be looking pritttty good. All I gotta do now is finish some things up and I'll be ready! Also my friend Joe Schorgl will have a table this time, and he is one of my favorite cartoonists!

Also, pretty into this comic: Very attracted to the way it's drawn. Love the conjoined twins.

Love Marc Bolan. And to give credit where credit is due, this drawing was influenced by the drawings of Sally Bloodbath. I've been listening to a lot more music than usual. Got some tunes by some bands by the names of the 2x4s, No Way, Lars Langs, and the lovely melodies of Steve Malkmus in the Silver Jews album, American Water.

This has been one of the worst summers ever.

I guess that's not true. It's been the worst 3 weeks ever

Triumphant Return

Hello Hello Hello,

I've recently acquired my very own scanner so once I get that set up I hope to be updating this site much more frequently. I needed a break from making art after school ended, but it's time to stop being a lazy bones and get to woik.

I'm doing a kind of mail-art thing with John G and Jake Kelly and a few others, I will be getting on those pretty soon too. I've pretty much finished my second page for Jake's, but I haven't really gotten too far with the other 2 I have received. Nor have I figured out what my first page will be. Guess it's time to get started!

Also- got an internship at Zygote. I need to FOCUS. Haaaaaandle it.

oh boy

Oops, I guess it has been a while.

New things: Very busy with the Dybbuk story. Sorry I don't have any scanned images to show of that for now, but I will put some up soon.

Writing my thesis paper makes me want to kill people.
